James Cameron’s epic romance-disaster, Titanic, turned 20 this year, so now we all feel old, decrepid and very nostalgic.
Even if you somehow managed to make it to adulthood without ever having seen it, you’ll have a good grasp of the plot, which focused on Jack and Rose’s doomed love .
But Rose was not the only woman in Jack’s life.
Yes, there were all those French girls he drew in their birthday suits – but there was also someone else on the Titanic who meant a lot to him.
Her names was Cora Cartmell and you may recognise her as the girl who lit up at the sight of the ship.
She also got dance with Leo’s Jack at one those rowdy third-class shindigs which looked infinitely more fun than the stuffy dinners all the first class lot had to attend.
Cora Cartmell from the Titanic – remember her?
Back when they were happy
However, she had competition in the form of Kate Winslet’s Rose, prompting the famous “you’re still my best girl Cora” line.
Cora was played by Alexandrea Owens – but where is she now and what does she look like?
Still very much in the acting game, Alexandrea recently completed a degree in writing from California State University, Long Beach.
And there’s no danger of her getting fed up when people bring up her role in Titanic – she actually loves it when people recognise her AND quote that famous line.
Understandably, she clearly remembers meeting Leo for the first time, explaining how even though her first scene with Leo was cut, she still got to sit and draw with him for hours.
People clearly LOVED this film, as Cora still gets recognised, even now,
“I’ve had a couple people recognise me in the past few years. I went to a bar with some friends, recently, for example; our server came by, took our drink orders, and when she came back with them, she said, ‘I have a really weird question for you,’ said Alexandrea.
“Yes, she asked me if I was in Titanic, and she full-on said to me, ‘I was going to walk up to you and just say, ‘You’re still my best girl, Cora,’ but I didn’t want to be wrong and then feel like an idiot.’
“But I really wish she had, because that would have made my entire life.”
